Beard wax for strong hold and control

A good beard does not have to feel stiff or unnatural to stay in shape. Beard wax is for men who want a little more control over their beard or moustache. Especially with a longer beard, a full moustache or a specific style, wax can make the difference between hairs going in every direction throughout the day and a beard that stays neatly in shape.

At KAMM Barbershop, we do not choose our beard wax products at random. Our barbers use these waxes every day in the barbershop, so we know exactly how they perform on different types of beards and moustaches. We look at factors such as hold, how easy the wax is to apply, whether the beard still feels natural and how long the style stays in place. We only include beard wax products in our range that perform well in practice and that we genuinely stand behind.

When do you need beard wax?

Not every beard needs beard wax. If you have a short beard and mainly want to care for your beard hair and skin, beard oil or beard balm is often a better choice. Beard wax is particularly useful when you want both care and styling, with a stronger hold.

With a longer or fuller beard, hairs can start growing in different directions more easily. Wax helps you control these hairs and gives your beard more shape. Beard wax is also useful for moustaches when you want to keep the hairs neatly in place or shape the ends.

For example, if you want to style a full beard neatly downward, keep stray hairs under control or keep your moustache in place throughout the day, beard wax is a practical styling product.

How to use beard wax

Using beard wax is simple, but the amount you use makes a big difference. Always start with a small amount. You can always add more later, while using too much wax can make your beard feel heavy or greasy.

Take a small amount of wax from the tin and warm it between your fingers. Once the wax becomes smooth and workable, distribute it through your beard. Work the product thoroughly through the hairs and then shape your beard with your fingers or a beard comb.

For your moustache, you can apply the wax more precisely. Work from the centre towards the ends and direct the hairs into the desired shape. For a stronger hold, you can apply a little extra product to the ends.

Our tip from the barbershop: it is better to start with too little than too much. A small amount of good-quality wax is often enough to noticeably improve the way your beard stays in shape.

Beard wax or beard balm: what does your beard need?

The choice between beard wax and beard balm mainly depends on what you want to achieve with your beard.

Beard balm is primarily focused on conditioning. A good balm helps your beard feel softer and well cared for, while usually providing a light to medium hold as well. This makes beard balm a good choice for everyday use when you mainly want your beard to look well groomed and fall naturally.

Beard wax is more focused on styling. You use it when you want more control over the shape of your beard or moustache. Longer beards and moustaches in particular can benefit from the additional hold.

In short: if your main goal is conditioning, beard balm is usually the better choice. If you mainly want to style your beard and have more control, beard wax is the logical choice.

Beard wax or beard oil: which one should you choose?

The choice between beard wax and beard oil also comes down to conditioning versus styling. Beard oil is designed to condition your beard and the skin underneath it. It makes the hairs feel softer and can help relieve a dry feeling in the beard and skin. Beard wax serves a different purpose. It is a styling product that helps shape the hairs and gives you more control.

You can also combine both products. For example, use beard oil to condition your skin and beard, followed by a small amount of wax for styling. This can be a great combination, especially for a longer beard.

What is the best beard wax?

The best beard wax depends on your beard. A product that works perfectly for a long, coarse beard may not be the best choice for someone with a short beard and finer hairs.

That is why you should not only consider how strong the wax is, but also how you want to wear your beard. Do you want a natural style with some control? Or do you want to keep your beard and moustache firmly in shape? The length, thickness and growth direction of your beard also play a role.

Beard wax for your moustache

For moustache styling, wax is one of the most useful products you can use. Moustache hairs can be quite coarse and do not always grow neatly in the same direction. With a small amount of wax, you get more grip on the hairs and can shape them more precisely.

For a natural-looking moustache, you often only need a small amount of product. If you want a classic moustache with more pronounced ends, you can use a little extra wax and twist the tips into shape with your fingers.

Your moustache does not have to feel hard or stiff. The goal is control, not using as much product as possible.
